Lake Harris

Ringed by majestic cypress trees, Lake Harris, at 13,788 acres, is the largest lake in Lake County, Florida. It is the jewel of the Harris chain of lakes, and from Lake Harris, boater can navigate to seven other lakes, including Lake Griffin, Lake Eustis, Lake, Dora, Lake Beauclair, Lake Carlton, and Lake Apopka. Together, the lakes cover more than 75,000 acres.

Bass Fishing

Beneath its waters, Lake Harris hides pockets and ridges, perfect for Bass fishing.

In fact, Lake Harris has been host to numerous bass tournaments. In the 1990's, bass fishing in the Harris chain suffered a serious blow when a number of environmental factors combined to see the bass disappear. But ironically, drought in 2002 allowed new Kissimmee grass to grow along the shoreline, and with it came the bass. Bass tournaments have once again but Lake Harris on their tours, but after the trouble in the 1990's many fisherman don't know that the bass have returned, making Lake Harris a kind of secret.

Boating

More than a dozen boat ramps, marinas, and parks lie on
the shore of Lake Harris.

Many feature playgrounds and picnic pavilions, like Venetian Gardens on the west shore. For those who live on the lake and have the luxury of a private boat slip (maybe that can be you), that means there are many boating destinations with in your reach.
